Montopoli Val DŽArno has medieval origins even though signs of Etruscan and Roman settlements have been discovered in its territory and the Municipal Administration is planning some archeological paths. Like some other Tuscan cities it has been contended for a long time by Lucca, Pisa and Florence. It has been defined "notable" castle by Giovanni Boccaccio and it still conserves some remains of the towers and of the ancient fortifications as a testimony of its past role of military settlement. The unique Tuscan landscape is the most valuable feature of this territory laying on hills, rich in ancient villas and villages that surround the basin of the river Arno. Together with the natural wealth and the historical background, Montopoli is rich in considerable resources in the typical sectors of agriculture, artistic craftsmanship and industry, above all in the footwear branch. All this summarize almost every aspect of the Tuscan reality, thus the "discovery" of this little Municipality becomes an interesting way to go through a sort of ideal trip in the very heart of this wonderful Region.
Montopoli in Val dŽ Arno is ideally located halfway between Florence, Pisa and Siena and it is good connected to those cities by railway. During your stay you have the possibility to enjoy the magnificent countryside going out for walks or bike tours, to go out for tasting food and wine at farms which produces olive oil, wine, cheese, ham and truffles and to easily reach all important cities in the area.
